I was speaking to a good friend today who was a little down trodden over a failed business venture, so much so his confidence has been severely knocked to such an extent he is looking at leaving his chosen career.
This set me to thinking, failure isn’t as bad as people make out. We all have tried and failed at something in our lives and rarely is it a totally negative experience, it defines us and sets us on a new path, a path that we perhaps might be more likely to excel at.
Being totally candid, I have failed at various things in my life, sport, music and in various business ventures but now I’m succeeding as a freelance web designer/developer with a good deal of life experience from these failures and a greater understanding of why I failed and why I should not make certain choices again.
Everyone has had setbacks in their lives and careers and gone on to succeed, these guys that are sitting on millions I guarantee they didn’t do it first time, if they did they are damn lucky! Life is full of failures and setbacks and we should learn as much as we can from them and approach whatever might come next head on and without the fear of failure eating away at us and inadvertently making us fail before we even begin.
Admitting failure is something we all struggle with due to pride and embarrassment, if your business/project is slowly dying face up to and and admit defeat and use that time and energy into something new. Don’t throw time and money at something you know in your heart is not going to work, just face up to it and use that experience, time and money for something positive!
This is something I have been giving a good deal of thought this evening and would love to get some more insight to this, so if you feel you can add something or disagree with something I have said please do comment and maybe help someone out.. Thanks for reading!
Nice post! If you find you fall flat on your face, then standing up. Brushing yourself off. Assessing both where you went wrong AND where you went right, and accepting it, will make you a greater person overall. Every great person in this world failed many times before accomplishing something.
Indeed! It’s about seeing a silver lining in it and using it to help build you as a person
