The Cheese Cellar

The Cheese Cellar is a cosy little spot in the heart of Garston, where cheese, wine, and community come together.

Client Overview

The Cheese Cellar is an independent cheese and wine bar in Garston, Liverpool. It’s a small venue with a loyal local following, and most people already know it through word of mouth or Instagram rather than through a website.

The Mission

Before the rebuild, there wasn’t really a proper website. Information was scattered, and most updates lived on social media. That works to a point, but it doesn’t help someone who just wants to check menus, opening times or what’s coming up. The Cheese Cellar also wanted to add eCommerce functionality and be able to sell products outside the local area.

Design

The Cheese Cellar already had branding in place so using that I created a design taking those into account and keeping the design straightforward and content-led, with space for photography where it helps and plain layouts where it doesn’t. The focus was on making information easy to find and showing what they offer.

Development

The site was built on WordPress with custom sections for menus, events and images. These needed to be flexible, as things change regularly and sometimes need to be quickly updated. I used WooCommerce to enable the eCommerce functionality and created custom filtering and used Advanced Custom Fields to make the listing of products easier and quicker.

Outcome

The finished site gives The Cheese Cellar a stable online home. People can find menus, events and practical details without relying on social posts, and updates can be made as and when needed. The ability to purchase online helps The Cheese Cellar grow outside the local area and offers greater reach and potential for sales.
